If your principal course is accompanied by at least 10 weeks of qualifying ELICOS, a Foundation program, or an eligible Pathway program, the minimum can be 39 overall.

For a principal course accompanied by at least 20 weeks of ELICOS, the minimum can be 31 overall.

• Are enrolled in a registered school course.

The timing of your English test can also matter.

For Student visa applications, the Department of Home Affairs states that English test results generally need to have been obtained within the 2 years before lodging the application for applicants in the Regular Evidence stream. For applicants in the Streamlined Evidence stream, the Department may request evidence obtained within the 2 years before a decision is made.

This means you should consider your application timeline before taking the test too early.
